Arrest & Control (PSP) 8 HR (POST)
OVERVIEW
Students will be instructed in Arrest and Control Techniques designed to ensure personnel safety and awareness while executing their duties as Law Enforcement Officers. Students will be taught about Use of Force legal issues per PC 835a, including the authority to arrest and/or use force. Students will learn key issues related to CA Assembly Bill 392, Senate Bill 230 and Assembly Bill 490. Course is P.O.S.T certified #1428-29503-22 and meets P.O.S.T PSP requirements.
GOAL
This eight-hour course is designed to meet P.O.S.T Perishable Skills Program requirements. Students will be instructed in a facilitated learning environment was well as scenario-based training. Students will learn current legal issues, discuss agency policy, learn proper search, handcuffing and escorting techniques, medical aid requirements and proper use of force report writing.
PRESENTER
Charles J. Sherman, Owner/Instructor Controlled Response Institute
Charles Sherman is a retired sworn law enforcement officer with approximately 30 years of service. He started his career as a Detention Officer with the Kern County Sheriff’s Department where he served for approximately 10 years. Mr. Sherman was later hired as a full-time Police Officer with the Bakersfield Police Department, promoting to Sergeant and serving for approximately 17 years. In 2019, Mr. Sherman was hired by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office as an Investigator where he served until 2022. Mr. Sherman has developed his professional skill set to include Use of Force Expert, Gang and Narcotics Expert, Koga and PIDT Defense Tactics, Arrest & Control Instructor and Taser, CRCH & Baton Instructor. He is dedicated to developing and presenting strategic communications and use of force training to law enforcement personnel. His personal mission as a business owner and instructor is to build trust in the community through training and developing professional law enforcement personnel who make reasonable use of force decisions.
